LifeStreet Bikes to Battle Rare Cancer: Cycle for Survival 2013

Nothing beats a weekend in the city for a good cause.  On Saturday, February 2nd LifeStreet shared the honor of participating in Cycle for Survival 2013 at Equinox Gym in Downtown San Francisco.

Cycle for Survival is an annual, indoor cycling event that supports lifesaving research on “rare cancers,” which comprise half of all diagnosed cancers and affect 200,000 individuals in the US alone. 100% of proceeds directly fund research at the world renowned Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

LifeStreet CEO Mitchell Weisman and the LifeStreet Team were part of the 13,000 participants and 2,600 nationwide teams making a difference in the fight against rare cancer. We surpassed our initial fundraising goals and contributed over $14,000 in generous donations to Cycle for Survival! We are so grateful to our donors, our fellow team mates, and the Cycle for Survival organization.

Cycle for Survival pays tribute to the lives of those affected by cancer and commemorates their battle with a day of nonstop music and fiery energy. You can always count on LifeStreet to join in wherever there’s dancing, and in this case the bigheartedness of our donors really gave us something to strut about.

Jennifer Goodman Linn and her husband, Dave, began raising crucial funds for rare cancer research in 2007 after Jennifer was diagnosed with cancer, and the couple realized how little funding was available for these so-called “rare” cancers which weren’t rare at all. “Rare” cancers include pediatric cancers, brain cancers, and sarcoma, among others. Six years and 25 million dollars raised later, Cycle for Survival has garnered overwhelming support from Memorial Sloan-Kettering, cities across the country, and thousands of cyclers and donors.   Read about Dave and Jennifer’s heart-wrenching journey here, or check out this emotional video. Be sure to have tissues on hand!

San Francisco has been a participating city since 2011. This is LifeStreet’s second time participating in this wonderful event. Cycle for Survival brings together families, friends, and coworkers to make a palpable impact on cancer patients and their loved ones.

All of us at LifeStreet are proud to support this important cause. This won’t be the last year we join teams across the country to kick cancer’s butt!
